U.S. Navy (1989-1995)

Hospital Corpsman
• National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda MD - Worked on inpatient
wards (Neuro-Surgery Step-down & Oncology) performing nursing
duties such as assisting patients with activities of daily living
(ADL), monitoring vital signs, performing neurological checks, emptying
J-P tubes, starting and monitoring Intravenous therapy, doing blood
draws, administering internal intermittent and indwelling catheter
procedures, and administering sutures. Assisted Physicians with Lumbar
Puncture procedures
• 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion of the 2nd Marine Division -
Served in the Persian Gulf War. Duties included manning the Battalion
Aid Station for "sick call" and performing all medical duties
necessary while out in the field for various operations.
• U.S.S. Kearsarge - Served as the Medical Department’s
Safety Petty Officer, in which I monitored our compliance with OSHA
requirements and workplace safety. Implemented and supervised the
Hearing Conservation Program for 1500 crew members, performed safety
& health inspections of ship's barber, store, galley, berthing
areas, water treatment facilities, administered immunizations and
tracked the ship's immunization program and all related administrative
duties. Worked "sick call", performing evaluations, diagnosing,
and treating patients with varying health conditions. Served as an
EMT on the ship's 4-man Medical Emergency Response Team. I was the
ship's Certified CPR Instructor in charge of teaching and maintaining
CPR certifications of 170 critical personnel. Assisted with lab and
pharmacy procedures.
U.S. Navy Reserves (1999-2003)
Hospital Corpsman
• Assisted with monthly physicals, performing audiograms, venipuncture,
immunizations, and documentation.
• Created and manned Athletic Training booth for Reserve Center
Health Fair providing information on hydration, soft tissue injury
prevention and lightning safety.
• Supply liaison for Marine Corps Toys for Tots Mud Run.
• Performed computer updates for 170 medical records.
• Served with a Marine Corps Infantry Unit as a Field Medical
Technician. Duties included daily sick call evaluation, and treatment
of field injuries.
• Recalled to active duty for 12 months in 2002 with 2nd Battallion/25th
Marine Regiment in support of Operations Enduring Freedom/Noble Eagle.
Unit was assigned to East coast homeland defense operations. Duties
included daily sick call evaluation, and treatment of field injuries.
Idaho Army National Guard (2003)
116th Calvary Brigade - Served in the 216th Military Intelligence Company.
